AMA continues pressure to fix urgent Medicare problem

The American Medical Association will continue to pressure Congress to make the Medicare Physician Fairness Act a top priority for floor action.  Despite bipartisan support from more than sixty senators and 280 members of the House, legislation to strengthen the Medicare program and preserve patient access to quality care was not allowed floor consideration before the holidays.  The Republican leadership, in the senate, blocked action from occurring.

Representatives from the AMA have noted that in a 45 day period, Congress has received over 20,000 contacts from grassroots physicians urging passage of this legislation.  AMC/NOMA members are encouraged to write to members of Congress regarding this legislation.
