Elective surgeries may need to be delayed due to blood shortages

January is National Blood Donor Month, but the blood donations in greater Cleveland have been down since October.  According to the Red Cross they have met patient needs by using donations which were frozen after the 9-11 attacks and the shortage of blood donations is becoming critical.  The Red Cross has indicated that if  more blood isn't donated soon, hospitals may be forced to delay elective surgeries.
