Farmers Insurance to Exit Medical Malpractice Business

The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies' Truck Insurance ExchangeŽ unit today announced it will discontinue its medical malpractice insurance line of business.

Effective immediately, Farmers will no longer write new medical malpractice coverage and will begin the process to non-renew existing business beginning Jan. 1, 2004. This decision is in keeping with Farmers' strategic decision to focus on its core business lines.

"We will work attentively with our clients and their agents to address any concerns and challenges that arise during this transition," said Jeff Reinig, vice president of Farmers' Healthcare Professional Liability business. "As necessary, we will assist our customers in locating alternate carriers."
