In a visit to Cleveland’s Lincoln Electric, Commerce Secretary Bob Evans outlined a report recently released by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The report stated that state governments can help the nation’s struggling manufacturing industry by helping lower health care costs and by “modernizing” the legal system in regard to medical liability and other tort issues.
The Commerce Department report also states governments should address key health care issues by enacting “association health plans,” encouraging health savings accounts, passing medical liability reform and speeding access to new and generic drugs.
Governor Bob Taft who welcomed the Secretary later traveled to Canton to urge support for legislation (SB 80) that would make significant changes in Ohio’s tort laws.
